Decent post that an SEO should read...
Designers should take this into consideration...

I have been a seo consultant for a long time... almost 3 and a half years but have never met a client who was 100% satisfied with my work. I mean it's like they want it yesterday, almost for nothing and on first page of the SERPS... on Google and Bing

Geeze Steve, do you ever sleep?! ...or do you get up at four in the morning like me; to rant about Alexa of all things. I think your readers need to know that I'm one of those ten million people who downloaded the Alexa toolbar, probably fifteen years ago. It slowed down my browsing, was of no useful service and hence was removed shortly after it was installed. WHAT A WASTE! I had a meeting with my lawyer client Shannon Holcombe yesterday. His top concern for his website was SEO. It was good to see him at last nights meetup and give him the opportunity to meet with the aforementioned Alexa ranking fan; to see just what I meant by "shaman" and "voodoo". Not regarding the charming and affable marketing woman, but about the nature of SEO. As I'm sure you know, it is not nearly as complicated as rocket science, yet there are those who would have you believe just that. Can you imagine a company charging you $99.00 just to tell you how poor your Alexa ranking is?! People buying those services were called "marks" by the carnies of yore. Anyway, for $700.00 I can do a complete analysis for you. What do you say?

Alexa, Shmexa... couldn't agree more. Wondering who it was that cared at the networking event? Could it have been 'what's your Page Rank?' - which reminds me of asking in the old days, 'what's your sign?'
Page Rank matters more ... but even that is not revealed by Google on their toolbar in a timely fashion.
It's about Quality Inbound Links, Content, Keywords, Smart Content, Tags, oh and did I say CONTENT?
